Barbados remain Segway world champions

The 2010 Segway World cup finals saw Barbados Flyin’ Fish retain their hold on the trophy for another year, beating German side Blade Pirates 3-1 in a tense final.

The teams on the last match day were:

Barbados Flyin Fish, Barbados
Barbados Rum Runners, Barbados
California Black Rose, USA
Funky-Move Turtles, Germany
Germany Blade Pirates, Germany… See More
Oakland Junkyard Dogs, USA
Silicon Valley Aftershocks, USA
Stockholm Saints, Sweden

The first match on the card showed why the two sides were battling out for the last position with the Oakland Junkyard Dogs failing to win against their local rivals, Silicon Valley Aftershocks, the previous world champions with Apple founder Steve Wazniak (almost as well known as his co-founder Steve Jobs) fighting well for the Aftershocks.

The second match proved to be the most entertaining match of the day with California Black Rose taking a 2-0 lead against the Saints from Sweden. The Swedish team leveled the score with almost the last action of the match leading us to see five minutes of overtime. A wonderful goal saw the Saints home for 5th position.

The Funky Turtles won a thrilling match to beat the local Rum Runners for third position in the closest game of the day.

Finally, after a local culture show, which gave time for the segways to be recharged, Barbados Flyin’ Fish beat the German team, Blade Pirates to win the final match by 3 to 1.

The next world cup will be held in California in 2011.
